Today, you might have plans to grill out to celebrate the amazing dads in your life.
Or you might be grieving the loss of a beloved dad.
You might be honoring a legacy of Godly men who have led your family.
Or lamenting that the fathers in your life have left behind a heritage of hurt and disappointment.
The good news is that no matter what you are facing, you can always depend on the everlasting love of our Heavenly Father. Which of these aspects of God’s character most encourages you today?
1. Unconditional Love
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8
God loves us without limits simply because we are His children. Likewise, we are called to love others freely and with grace, just as He loves us.
2. Faithfulness
“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.” – Deuteronomy 7:9
God is always faithful and keeps His promises. From his example, we can learn to be reliable and trustworthy in our commitments to our families, friendships, and faith.
3. Patience
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” – 2 Peter 3:9
God’s patience is a gift to us. He guides us back when we stray and gives us time to grow. This teaches us to be patient with ourselves and others, understanding that growth takes time.
4. Wisdom
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” – James 1:5
The theological term is “omniscient” which means that God knows everything, all the time. He shares His wisdom with all who seek Him. In Him alone, we can find the wisdom to enjoy life’s joys and handle life’s challenges.
5. Mercy
“The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.” – Psalm 103:8-10
Through his grace, God gives us second changes. Throughout Scripture, we see him forgiving His people again and again. How can we learn to forgive others and let go of grudges?
Put it into Practice.
Take a few minutes to practice the discipline of praying through Scripture.
Pick one of the characteristics of God and spend a few minutes praising God for His love, faithfulness, patience, wisdom, and mercy. Then ask God to help you search your heart and help you to grow more like Him in these specific areas.
Praying for you!
