Christian Rhythms For Depending On God

Middle Eastern Dinner

In our busy lives, it’s easy to forget the importance of relying on God.

Reclaim your spiritual joy by creating daily rhythms of connecting with God. As we’ve been going through the Meet God podcast series, I’ve been inspired by the lives of Moses and David.

Lessons from Moses: Embrace Divine Empowerment

Moses’ journey from a reluctant leader to the deliverer of Israel exemplifies the transformative power of depending on God. Initially, Moses doubted his abilities, questioning God’s choice in selecting him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Can you relate? I can!

God patiently equipped Moses with the necessary tools and confidence to fulfill his calling, and I believe he wants to do the same for you and me.

To develop a consistent routine of depending on God, we can learn from Moses to:

Start each day acknowledging your inadequacies: Like Moses at the burning bush, begin by recognizing that our strength is insufficient. This humility will open you up to God’s guidance and power.

Seek God’s specific instructions: Moses received clear directives from God. Make it a habit to seek God’s will through prayer and scripture study before making decisions.

Trust in God’s provision: Just as God provided manna and water for the Israelites, trust that He will meet your needs as you follow His lead.

Moses’ story also serves as a cautionary tale. When he struck the rock instead of speaking to it as God commanded, it cost him entry into the Promised Land. This reminds me of the importance of consistent obedience, even in seemingly small matters.

Lessons from David: Cultivating a Heart After God

David’s life was a roller coaster of ups and downs, but his legacy is faithfulness and worship.

To emulate David’s dependence on God, consider incorporating these practices into your routine:

Daily reflection and repentance: David’s heartfelt repentance after his sin shows the importance of regularly examining our actions and seeking God’s forgiveness.

Praise and worship: David was known as a worshipper. How can you incorporate praise throughout your day to draw closer to God?

Seek God’s wisdom: David frequently asked God for guidance before making decisions. Psalm 25 reflects his deep desire to know God’s ways and walk in His paths, a prayer born from a heart that understood the need for divine guidance.

David’s life also illustrates the dangers of self-reliance. His lapse in judgment with Bathsheba led to dire consequences, reminding us of the importance of maintaining our dependence on God, especially in times of success and comfort.

Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:5-8

Put it into Practice.

Remember, the goal of the Christian life should be an intimate relationship with Jesus – not robotic obedience.

Moses and David had moments of failure, but their deep dependence on God characterized their overall lives. As you develop your routines, be patient with yourself and remain open to God’s gentle corrections and guidance.

By consistently turning to God, you’ll find, like Moses and David, that His strength is made perfect in our weakness, and His grace is sufficient for every challenge we face.
