Jesus’ Guide on How to Raise Your Children

“Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Matthew 20:28

Jesus is an extraordinary role model for dads, showing how love, guidance, service and protection positively shapes the lives of their children.

Let’s start with Jesus’ love.

It was unconditional. No matter the sins of those he encountered, his love never wavered. Similarly, dads can embrace their kids with love, no matter what. In 1 Corinthians 16:14, the Apostle Paul writes, “Do everything in love.” Not always easy to do, but always worth the effort to try.

Let’s consider Jesus’ teachings.

He was a phenomenal teacher, right? He used parables and real-life situations to share his wisdom with us. One notable parable for dads is the Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32). It’s one of my favorites. In this parable, a father’s love and forgiveness for his wayward son reveals the man’s heart. Dads can take everyday moments, and the painfully hard ones too, and turn them into loving experiences. As Proverbs 22:6 says, “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”

Let’s examine service, the heart of Jesus’ mission.

Jesus washed the feet of His disciples, showing that no act of service is too humble. He did it to show the men that to be great, they had to first be humble. Dads can reflect that same selfless love that Jesus modeled.

Lastly, let’s talk about protection.

Jesus was a shepherd to his flock. In John 10:11, Jesus says, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” Fathers (mothers too) go to great lengths to care and protect their children. You are the shepherd for your children.

In closing, by following Jesus’ example, dad’s can leave a lasting impression on their children’s hearts. So, here’s to all fathers and their continual efforts to raise their children in the way they should go.! God bless you.
